We have recently installed a feed pusher for a customer and they are already reporting improved yields and less feed waste.
They are feeding once per day but are able to push the feed up every hour ensuring every cow gets a constant diet for the entire period.
Not only do you get less sorting of feed and less waste but if you only push up 3-4 times per day then the dominant cows will feed at these times and lower ranking heifers are forced to wait especially if the housing is over stocked. By pushing up every 2 hours each cow has equal access to the feed. Research has shown that cows will visit the fence more often resulting in more constant rumen fill and lower incidence of metabolic disorders in early lactation.
This pusher follows a magnetic track which is placed in a grove cut into the concrete. By having a constant track it is impossible for the pusher to get lost. Depending on the amount of feed present the pusher is able adjust the distance it pushes. For barns that are very heavily stocked and a lot of feed is present the pusher can run on multiple tracks through the day to steadily move the feed towards the fence.
